Riga isn’t the kind of city that begs for attention and honestly, Latvia wasn’t even on my radar until this trip. It doesn’t have Rome’s “every corner is a postcard” energy or flood your insta feed like Paris, but that’s the magic of much of Eastern Europe.
These places aren’t flashy at first glance; they reveal themselves quietly, and when they do, you can’t help but wonder why they’ve stayed under the radar.
I came for a workshop and stayed five days, just enough to scratch the surface. And my first thoughts and description of Riga is it’s the sound of church bells, the sight of of rain on cobblestone, the smell of faint spices of rye bread drifting from a café window.
It’s beautifully unbothered.
If you’re curious what to see, eat, and experience in Riga, I’ve shared my favorite finds for subscribers below.
